Hold Congress Accountable

Background

Louisiana's 1st Congressional District deserves a representative who truly defends the Constitution. Instead, Congress has fallen into dysfunction by neglecting oversight, tolerating executive branch overreach, and trading real accountability for partisan theater.

Steve Scalise, despite his leadership role as House Majority Leader, has put politics before people. He's failed to check constitutional violations, ignored executive overreach, and left his constituents without the protection and leadership they deserve.

Our district needs a leader who will uphold their oath, fight for democratic principles, and put our country first.

Lauren’s Priorities in Congress

• Push back on executive overreach by opposing the use of executive orders and interagency "agreements" to bypass Congress and rewrite law without a vote as we've already seen with the dismantling of federal agencies and programs Congress created.
• Defend the separation of powers by supporting the War Powers Resolution enforcement and opposing unchecked unilateral military or spending action that cuts Congress out of decisions the Constitution reserves for it.
• Overturn Citizens United and get unlimited corporate PAC and super PAC money out of politics. As a former local and state school board candidate and now a federal candidate, Lauren understands the power and importance of grassroots campaigns. She will advocate for more transparent mechanisms and advocate for publicly-financed campaigns.
• Institute term limits on members of Congress so that we can bring new perspectives to our legislative branch and prevent entrenched, career politicians who lack proximity and accountability to their constituents
• Advocate for a moratorium on lobbying for at least 5 years for congressional representatives following the end of their elected term
• Prohibit stock and insider trading for members of Congress while they serve in office
• Establish a binding code of judicial ethics for the United States Supreme Court which includes financial disclosures and gift acceptance limitations
• Require elected members of Congress to hold annual town halls, with at least a 72-hour public notice, and be responsive to their constituents in their district
• End the rubber stamp and refuse to put party loyalty over the Constitution. We must vote to check abuses of power no matter which party is in the White House.
• Protect whistleblowers by strengthening legal protections for federal employees and inspectors general who expose waste, abuse, or constitutional violations
